APRIL SHOWERS BRING MAY FLOWERS… AND SEASONAL ALLERGIES

It’s April, and spring is in the air…literally.

Spring is the most common time of the year for people to experience seasonal allergy symptoms. As the weather gets warmer and plants start to bloom, trees and grasses release pollen into the air, triggering allergic symptoms in those with seasonal allergies. Colorful flowers also bloom in the spring, and are often blamed as the cause of spring allergies. In addition to plants, exposure to pet rabbits received as Easter presents may also be a reason why allergy symptoms can flare during the spring.

Your allergy symptoms—the sniffling, sneezing, itchy, watery eyes—are in overdrive and may stay that way for months.

What to do if you are plagued by allergies?

Take frequent showers when exposed to pollen.

Wash clothes and bedding as pollen clings to material.

Stay inside with an air conditioner on if the pollen level is extremely high.

Take some kind of antihistamine if you stay outdoors most the day. Read labels carefully to make sure it is a non-drowsy formula and speak to your pharmacist for expert advice.

If you continue to have allergic reactions, visit your doctor as soon as possible.
